Tesco Bank Football Challenge

Tesco Bank are working in partnership with the Scottish Football Association to deliver the Tesco Bank Football Challenge to school children across Scotland. Both organisations are passionate in supporting Scotland's children and giving them opportunities to live healthier, happier lives.

The programme involves Scottish FA Development Officers visiting primary two and three children over a period of six weeks, providing both boys and girls with basic football skills training. At the end of the six weeks the children participate in a fun-filled football festival, where local schools come together with the Development Officers for a day of fun and exercise. Teacher training enables the teachers to carry on with the programme long after the Development Officers have finished their 6 week coaching block.

All aspects of the programme have been developed by the Scottish FA with the Curriculum for Excellence in mind, in that it helps schools reach the Scottish Governments set requirements of at least two hours of quality physical education every week. The programme is designed to develop social skills, fitness and team spirit through football, regardless of ability or gender.

Merchant Soul were commissioned to design the branding, mascots and promotional materials for this campaign, and ultimatey to design a website that tied in with all of these.

We opted for a non-flash approach to maximise the site's availability in schools and on mobile devices.

Instead, jQuery was used to create all the on-screen animations and games.

Graeme's son Lewis also earned some extra pocket money by helping to develop and test the games, as at seven years old, he was in the target age-group for the site. (He enjoyed the experience so much that's he now seriously considering becoming a games developer!)

Behind the scenes, this website uses our standard Content Management System, with a couple of tailored modules to allow for bulk upload of events images, easy incorporation of online video clips and to manage the bespoke game settings.
