Location

Exterior - East Silvermills Lane

East Silvermills Lane is centrally located, but very private and quiet. The Lane itself runs off Henderson Row in Stockbridge, almost opposite the main entrance to The Edinburgh Academy.

It's a short stroll to the shops, pubs, restaurants and boutiques of fashionable Stockbridge, or about 10 minutes walk to Princes Street (about 7 minutes back, as you come down the hill!).

Edinburgh is famous for its super-efficient traffic wardens so it's a relief to know that the apartment comes with its own private car parking space at the rear of the building. That makes unloading your luggage a lot easier as well. The picture shows the rear of the building, where there's an entrance to the car parking.

Hallway/Entrance

There's a small lobby, with facilities to hang coats and hats and a spacious and light hall. All the rooms lead off the hall which, like the rest of the property, is wood floored. A security system lets you check visitors and 'buzz' them into the building without going downstairs.

Throughout 17/6 East Silvermills Lane there are original prints and pictures by contemporary artists, including Eduardo Paolozzi, who was born in Edinburgh. You can see more of his work at the fantastic Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Master Bedroom

Master Bedroom

A nice spacious, light and very quiet room with its own TV. The main WiFi connection is installed here.

There's a large and comfortable double bed, sleigh style, and plenty of room in the built-in cupboards for your clothes and cases. You can preen in the floor to ceiling mirrors before hitting the town and, of course, you have your own en-suite shower room.

Ensuite

Ensuite - Master Bedroom

This has just been refitted (December 2006). What else can we tell you - it's an en-suite shower room, with WC, wash-hand basin, electric razor point and radiator.

Spare Bedroom

Spare Bedroom

Plenty of room here for two - built-in cupboards, with large mirror doors, and two large single beds, with their own bedside lights and small table. A light and airy room, also very quiet.

Sitting Room

Sitting Room

The sitting room is spacious, due to its interesting and unusual shape. This means there is generous floor space for the bed settee (sleeps 2), comfy armchairs and TV, DVD and VHS player. Of course, there's a CD player as well and, did we mention this, it's light, airy and quiet.

Windows to the side give a double aspect and we hope you'll enjoy the selection of pictures by contemporary artists.

Kitchen

Kitchen

Actually, you probably won’t use the kitchen. The Edinburgh restaurant scene is justly famous and nearby Stockbridge is buzzing with terrific cafes and pubs. There are at least half a dozen places for great coffee, snacks and sandwiches just on Henderson Row (great fish and chips at L’Alba d’Oro) and Dundas Street – easy for breakfast. A memorable dinner isn’t very far away either: try Ducks at Le Marche Noir in nearby Eyre Place.

But if you do use the kitchen you'll find a proper oven and hob; full-size dishwasher; fridge; freezer; washer/dryer for your clothes and a table that seats 6 easily. There's plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery - all that sort of stuff. While you eat (or tidy up) you can listen to the digital radio/CD.

Bathroom

Bathroom

The bathroom's a decent size and well lit, for putting on make-up or shaving. It's got a full-size bath, WC and basin.

We're very fond of the decorative fish. Especially the large whale.

This is a nice view of the front of the building. The flat is on the left, 2nd floor. Enjoy!
